Indian news outlets indicated that Uttam Mandal and Sapna Kumari were married in 2014 and had two children together. However, Sapna fell in love with one of Uttam's relatives. After failing to convince his wife to end the affair, Uttam helped Sapna marry the man she loved.
Uttam stated in an interview with Bihar Times: "I felt angry and sad for a while, but I decided to come up with a solution." He added, "The lives of three people would be destroyed if I didn't do this. This was the only solution. Now we can all be happy."
Uttam noted that Sapna's parents tried to persuade her to stay with him and not destroy the family, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and they eventually decided to attend their daughter's wedding to her lover.
It remains unclear whether Uttam and Sapna separated before she married her lover, but according to Indian media, the children stayed with their father, as the bride refused to take them with her.
