Former Japanese Prime Minister Shot

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was attacked and was seen bleeding during an event in the western city of Nara and was unconscious, according to local media reports. Several outlets, including Kyodo News Agency, reported that the former prime minister was attacked, and both Kyodo and NHK National Broadcasting stated they heard gunfire. Japanese media indicated that Abe was "shot from behind while giving a speech at an election campaign", and he was taken to the hospital after falling to the ground. Footage purportedly from the attack incident involving Abe has circulated. Reports noted that Abe "showed no vital signs after the attack", while police were able to arrest the assailant.
