Lebanese Energy Minister Walid Fayad was assaulted by protesters, as one of them pushed him against a wall during an argument. Videos showed Minister Fayad speaking with activists and protesters who had met him outside an entertainment venue. The protesters engaged in a heated exchange with Fayad, holding him responsible for the deterioration of electricity supply and poor handling of the energy crisis in Lebanon. For at least three decades, Lebanon has faced an escalating issue in the electricity sector, forcing the majority of residents to pay two bills: one to the state and a high one to generator owners who compensate for the supply shortages. Reforming the sector is a key demand of the international community to support Lebanon.
