The Snapchat platform has added a new way to remember friends' birthdays and share celebrations within the app through the new Birthday Mini reminder tool. This feature provides an overview of friends' birthdays and access to special celebratory features, such as augmented reality lenses, to help celebrate the occasion.
The app states: "See a list of upcoming and recent birthdays, as well as birthdays organized by Zodiac Sign. Wish your friends a happy birthday with unique stickers and fun lenses for celebration; you can even count down to your own birthday."
This step presents a significant opportunity, as a large part of Facebook usage relies on reminders. Users log in to see if there are any upcoming birthdays and stay updated on the main news about family and friends within the app.
However, the Birthday Mini tool does not display your friend's birth year or exact age, and similarly, other users of the platform will not see the same information about you. You also won’t see the birthdays of friends who have not consented to share them in the app.
