The Reason: Eating a Handful of Nuts Daily

The German Nutrition Society recommends consuming a handful (the palm of the hand) of nuts daily due to their numerous health benefits. It explains that nuts like hazelnuts, walnuts, and almonds are rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which positively affect cholesterol levels, maintain vascular health, and consequently reduce the risk of atherosclerosis and coronary heart diseases.

In addition to healthy fats, nuts also contain many phytochemicals, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, and they are good sources of protein. As a result, they help promote a feeling of fullness for a long time, preventing severe hunger pangs, which aids in weight loss and maintaining fitness. Nuts also provide energy and enhance concentration.

Due to their high-fat content, nuts spoil quickly. This not only makes them taste bitter and rancid but also leads to the formation of decomposed products, some of which can be harmful to health and may cause digestive disorders. To keep nuts fresh for as long as possible, it is best to store them in a cool, dark, and dry place, well-packaged in a mesh or wooden box, which provides good ventilation.
