A wood shop owner in Egypt attempted to sell his infant child under the pretext of poor living conditions and financial troubles through a page he created for this purpose. Security forces successfully intercepted this attempt on Facebook.
As part of the Ministry of Interior's efforts to combat crime in all its forms, especially crimes committed online, the General Administration for the Protection of Morality received reliable information and investigations confirming the existence of a Facebook page belonging to an individual who announced his willingness to sell his infant son for a monetary sum.
Authorities were able to identify the location and apprehend the individual in question along with the infant while they were in the area of the El-Masr El-Qadima police station in Cairo. It was revealed that he was a wood shop owner residing in Giza. Upon confrontation, he confessed to advertising his son for sale on Facebook in exchange for money, attributing this decision to his financial difficulties. He confirmed that this page was created for the same purpose and was found in possession of a mobile phone containing messages and conversations related to the sale.
