A British military group reported today, Friday, that a ship was attacked off the coast of Oman in the Arabian Sea, providing only limited further details. A brief statement from UK Maritime Trade Operations indicated that an investigation is underway into the incident, which occurred late Thursday evening northeast of Oman's Masirah Island. The location is more than 300 kilometers (185 miles) southeast of Oman's capital, Muscat. The statement did not elaborate further, noting that the attack is suspected not to involve piracy. Earlier on Thursday, the British military group stated that it was investigating another unexplained incident in the same area, but did not provide more details. The U.S. Fifth Fleet, which patrols the Middle East, has not commented on the incident.
