The Health Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council warned on its Twitter account against excessive consumption of sweets at Iftar or exceeding the medically recommended limit for sugar intake during the holy month of Ramadan. The council indicated that the permissible sugar intake for an adult is estimated at 7 teaspoons (34 grams) per day, noting that exceeding this recommended limit may lead to five symptoms: lethargy after eating, fatigue during the following fasting hours, thirst, fat accumulation in the body, and increased blood sugar levels. It emphasized the importance of following a healthy, balanced, and varied diet during Iftar and Suhoor, and reducing the consumption of sweets, especially during or immediately after Iftar, to avoid these symptoms.
