In Lebanon: Anesthesia Shortage and Halt in Surgical Operations

The President of the Private Hospitals' Syndicate in Lebanon, Sleiman Haroun, issued a "distress call" to officials via "Al-Markaziya," warning of the cessation of all types of surgical operations, including emergency ones, due to a shortage of anesthesia medications. He urged officials to expedite the resolution of this "disaster" to save patients from this looming threat to their lives.

He revealed a "serious reality that hospitals have been suffering from for a week now, likely to continue for several days," which involves the unavailability of the anesthesia medications Propofol and Esmeron, provided by Droguerie de l'Union. He emphasized that "without these two types of medication, it becomes impossible to carry out surgical operations, forcing hospitals to suspend operations." Regarding the very limited stock they possess, hospitals are reserving it for emergency procedures.

Haroun warned that "if this problem persists, we will not be able to conduct all types of operations, even urgent and emergency ones." He cautioned that "this situation is extremely serious and requires immediate intervention from any official to resolve this "disaster" immediately."
