A man has died and three people were hospitalized in Montreal after a 26-year-old man stabbed them with a sharp object, according to Canadian police. The police in Canada’s second-largest city reported that they "responded to an emergency call at 06:50 AM (10:50 UTC) regarding a man in crisis in an apartment in downtown Montreal." They noted that "the suspect stabbed his mother and her husband, then stabbed another person in a neighboring apartment, as well as a building guard who attempted to intervene."
The mother's 72-year-old husband died at the scene, while the three injured individuals were taken to the hospital, where one remains in critical condition. The police indicated that "the suspect was arrested at the scene." Canada has recently seen an increase in violent attacks and mass shootings, resulting in 43 deaths and 38 injuries since 2017. Among the incidents was a truck attack on a Muslim family in London, Ontario, a shooting by a man in Nova Scotia, a vehicle attack targeting pedestrians in Toronto, and the shooting of six worshippers at a mosque in Quebec.
