Aboubakar Ogo Djengali, head of the mining department in Mali, stated that production was expected to reach 59.7 tons, but exceeded expectations for the second consecutive year due to improved technical performance of mining companies.
He added that estimates indicate that Mali's total gold production over the year reached 71.2 tons, including six tons from artisanal mining. Mali is one of Africa's largest gold producers, with multinational companies operating about 13 mines, including Barrick Gold and Resolute Mining. An official from the Ministry of Mines mentioned that there are expectations for further increases in industrial production in 2021, as official forecasts have not yet been released.
