Under the title "Document: Parliamentary Health Report on the Ibn al-Khatib Tragedy," the Sumaria News website published a report from the Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee regarding the fire tragedy at Ibn al-Khatib Hospital designated for COVID-19 patients in Baghdad. According to the report, the committee reached two conclusions. First, "the hospital is old and does not have a central fire extinguishing system, although there are a number of fire extinguishers that were reportedly maintained by the hospital management on April 18, 2021. Additionally, there was no regular monitoring and inspection by the Civil Defense Directorate."
The second conclusion the committee reached was "the lack of control by facility security forces and hospital management over the number of companions present inside the hospital, as there are 3 to 4 companions with each patient, in addition to several visitors. It was later found that some companions were using heaters and cooking food inside the corridors."
Sumaria News obtained the report from the Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee regarding the fire tragedy at Ibn al-Khatib Hospital, which is designated for COVID-19 patients in Baghdad. On Saturday evening, a fire incident occurred at the hospital, resulting in dozens of victims, both fatalities and injuries.
