The United States, represented by the U.S. Department of State, announced on Wednesday a reward of up to $10 million for anyone who can provide information about two Iranians. In a statement from the Department of State, it was revealed that the individuals, Mohammad Hossein Mousa Kazemi and Sajjad Kashian, were involved in an electronic operation aimed at interfering with the 2020 U.S. presidential elections, according to CNN.
The State Department noted that "the malicious operation took place between August and November 2020, and sought to sow discord and undermine voter confidence in the electoral process." According to the department, the Iranian nationals led a campaign to intimidate and influence American voters, attempted to purchase accounts on social media platforms for this purpose, and exposed email accounts belonging to an American media company "to danger."
The two men face sanctions and criminal charges, and U.S. authorities placed them on the sanctions list last November, along with an Iranian internet company they work for called "Eminet Pasargad."
