Dr. Natalia Kounsakya, a Russian nutrition expert, stated that drinking lemon water improves food digestion and helps combat viruses. In a conversation with the TASS Russian news agency, she noted that lemon water aids in fighting viral diseases and contributes to the formation of collagen, as well as the absorption of iron, zinc, and other minerals. She added that lemon water helps enhance the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and the secretion of bile, which is essential for the natural digestion of food.

She recommends drinking 2-3 cups of lemon water 30 minutes before meals each day. However, it is not advisable to consume this water on an empty stomach; it is better to drink plain water before breakfast. The expert also does not recommend drinking water during or immediately after meals, as this slows down the digestion process, according to RT. However, to soften the food mass, one can take a few sips.
