Queen Elizabeth Wishes for Camilla to Become Queen

Queen Elizabeth of Britain stated on Saturday that she wishes for Camilla, the wife of Prince Charles, to be given the title of Queen when he becomes king of the country. This reinforces Camilla's position in the royal family after previously being regarded as an outsider. In a message marking the 70th anniversary of her reign, Queen Elizabeth expressed that this occasion has given her the opportunity to reflect on the loyalty and love the British people have shown her. She added that she hopes Prince Charles and Camilla receive the same support, according to Reuters. The Queen stated, "My sincere wish is that when the time comes, Camilla is known as Queen Consort while continuing her loyal service."

Prince Charles and Camilla married in 2005 in a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle. Their residence at Clarence House said on Saturday that "the words of Her Majesty the Queen have touched and honored them." The Queen's move reflects broader acceptance of Camilla as a Queen. Tabloids no longer target her as they did in the ten years following the death of Prince Charles's first wife, Princess Diana, in 1997. Camilla currently holds the title of Duchess of Cornwall and now regularly represents the royal family alongside Prince Charles during official engagements.
