A source from the Electricité du Liban stated that the Deir Ammar thermal power plant will go offline today between the afternoon and evening hours due to a depletion of diesel fuel. The institution activated the Zahrani plant yesterday to avoid any total power outage, without any changes in the rationing situation, which will remain the same. The source reveals that the diesel reserve at the Zahrani plant is sufficient for only six days, and the institution will do its utmost and spare no effort to ensure electricity supply for essential state facilities such as Beirut Airport, the port, water institutions, and the Lebanese University, while awaiting the arrival of a very small ship in the coming days carrying 28,000 tons, which will last for a month. However, the institution is compelled to operate just one generator to supply power to essential public services. Recent developments, according to the same source, indicate the credibility of Electricité du Liban in the reports it issues that explain the status of electricity supply "as it occurs," conveying the situation as it is, and executing what is stated in those reports. Meanwhile, precautionary measures are being taken that have proven effective in timing and content; otherwise, the country and its public facilities would have faced a total blackout with dire consequences.
