Under the title "Little Hope Regarding Vienna Talks... Is America Proposing a Temporary Agreement?", the Al-Arabiya website published news discussing negotiations around the Iranian nuclear file, indicating that as the countdown begins for nuclear talks with Iran in Vienna, the outlook does not seem optimistic. The text of the previous nuclear agreement signed in 2015 has appeared to be nearly dead, making it difficult to revive, according to The New York Times, citing White House sentiments.
Time Gaining
It also hinted that the previous belief of U.S. President Joe Biden about the possibility of returning to the agreement initially, then working towards a "longer and stronger" deal, has ended. However, it also mentioned that there is a direction within the White House towards reaching a temporary agreement with the Iranian delegation in Vienna to buy some time.
"Plan B"
It revealed that "Plan B," discussed by several officials in the U.S. administration, has remained a topic of regular discussion among the White House, the State Department, and the Defense Department for months. This plan ranges from imposing more sanctions to sabotaging Iran's nuclear infrastructure. Furthermore, it noted that Israeli officials have repeatedly informed their American counterparts that they will not stop sabotaging Iran's nuclear infrastructure.
Time is Running Out
It is worth noting that many Western diplomats had warned in recent days, according to Reuters, that time is running out for efforts to revive the agreement from which former U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew in 2018. Meanwhile, the other global powers in the agreement—Britain, China, France, Germany, and Russia—have warned against a superficial negotiation in the upcoming round of talks, which Tehran has set for the 29th of this month (November 2021). The French Foreign Minister had warned Iran last week against participating in the next round of negotiations with a "superficial" negotiating stance. Meanwhile, Tehran, after six previous rounds, continues to insist on the lifting of U.S. sanctions imposed on it as the goal of those negotiations!
