Catalan newspaper Sport reported that "Leo" faces a suspension ranging from 4 to 12 matches, according to Article 98 of the disciplinary regulations, which classifies his actions as a "serious offense." The final decision will be made by the disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation.
The newspaper also clarified that Messi's suspension would apply to Barcelona's matches in both the league and the Copa del Rey. The matches Messi is expected to miss, if a punishment is imposed, include those against Elche, Athletic Bilbao, and Cornella in La Liga, in addition to one more match in the Copa del Rey. Notably, this red card is the first of Messi's career with Barcelona.
