The General Directorate of General Security issued the following: As a result of discussions held by the Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, during his recent visit to the Republic of Iraq, an agreement was reached to allow Lebanese nationals visiting sacred sites to enter Iraqi territory based on renewed passports under the following conditions:

- The passport must be of the "2003" model or a renewed biometric passport with a validity of not less than six months, bearing a valid entry visa issued by the relevant Iraqi authorities.

- The passport must show a clear photograph that has not changed the identity of the holder.

- The visit must be exclusively for visiting sacred sites.

Those wishing to travel to the Republic of Iraq solely for the purpose of visiting sacred sites and who hold expired Lebanese passports or passports with less than six months of validity must apply at the regional General Security centers to renew their passports for one year after paying the required fee and submitting the following documents:

1. A Lebanese passport (model 2003, biometric passport), not damaged, expired or with less than six months of validity, along with a copy of it.

2. An identification card with a photocopy of it or an individual registration statement that is not more than three years old with a photocopy of it.
