White House spokesperson Jen Psaki stated that President Joe Biden does not intend to meet with his foreign counterparts in person until mid-April at the earliest.
According to Reuters, Psaki clarified in remarks to reporters, "It will be two months before the president invites a foreign leader to meet at the White House." She added, "Meetings can also take place via video, as you know," referencing the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The team of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau indicated after a phone call at the end of January between Biden and Trudeau that a "meeting" would occur the following month, raising questions about its nature. Biden has already contacted several foreign leaders, including those from China, Mexico, the UK, India, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Russia, but he has yet to meet any leader in person since officially taking office last month.
