The Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai emphasized that "it is impossible for Lebanon to live according to its mission if it does not practice active neutrality," adding: "We cannot embroil the country in the conflicts of others, and neutrality is not a temporary position, but rather a method of constructive dialogue." In his Sunday sermon from Diman, he stated: "The people need a president who will withdraw Lebanon from conflicts, and at this stage, we should not hear names of candidates from here and there without seeing a vision for a candidate." Al-Rai observed that "the state has several methods to rescue depositors' funds in banks, but unfortunately, it is not acting."
