Resumption of Compensation Distribution to Beirut Port Explosion Victims by the Army

The army has resumed the distribution of compensation to citizens affected by the Beirut port explosion, amounting to 4 billion and 33 million and 100 thousand Lebanese pounds.

The National News Agency reported this evening, citing a statement issued by the Directorate of Guidance in the Lebanese Army on February 16, 2021. The relevant army units have resumed the distribution of compensation to citizens affected by the Beirut port explosion, with a total amount of 4 billion and 33 million and 100 thousand Lebanese pounds distributed. The statement clarified that the number of residential units benefiting from these compensations, classified as medium and below medium, reached 622 housing units located in areas including: Karantina, Mar Mikhael, Gemmayzeh, Corniche El Nahr, Jaitaoui, Sassine, Medawar, Rmeil, Rmeil, Rizq, Adliyeh, Tabaris, Burj Hammoud, and the waterfront of the Doura coast. The statement further noted that the distribution of assistance will continue tomorrow in the aforementioned areas, in addition to the Ain el-Mreisseh area.

In another context, the Lebanese army announced via its Twitter account a workshop for prison staff, supervised by experts from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and officers from the Directorate of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights. The workshop centered around how to manage prisons and the international standards adopted in the treatment of prisoners (Mandela Rules).
