Top 10 Cities in the World for Remote Work: Ranking of Dubai

The Australian city of Melbourne tops the list of the best cities in the world for remote work, according to a ranking by the on-demand housing platform Nestpick. Melbourne recorded high scores in livability factors such as safety, healthcare, cultural and recreational activities, as well as infrastructure for remote work. It was also one of the 10 cities in the Nestpick rankings offering a "digital nomad" visa—a specific visa or equivalent document that allows freelancers and foreigners to enter the country and work remotely.

The other cities listed were Zagreb, Prague, Lisbon, Reykjavik, Tallinn, Athens, Sydney, Dubai, and Mexico City. The Nestpick study consists of 75 cities worldwide, selected based on locations frequently referred to as the "most livable destinations," according to CNBC, which Arab Net accessed.

The cities were then ranked across three broad categories: costs and infrastructure, legislation and freedoms, and livability. In terms of costs and infrastructure, for example, this included analysis of price and availability of adequate space for home offices. The report indicated that in Melbourne, the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment was 681 euros (807 dollars) per month. San Francisco in the United States recorded the highest rent for home office space at 1,736 euros per month, while the average rent in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was found to be 119 euros per month.

Additionally, Nestpick noted the percentage of the population in each city that was fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as an indicator of government responses to the ongoing health crisis. Omar Kocakder, CEO of Nestpick, stated that the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted many people to reevaluate their personal priorities, revealing the benefits of remote work flexibility, and raised the question: Is it really possible to work from anywhere? Kocakder also pointed out that the pandemic caused high-income earners to leave "business-focused cities to live in places that offer better daily lifestyles, taking their purchasing power with them."
