A Real-Life Incident: A Sleeper in India Woke Up in Abu Dhabi

A baggage handler at an airport in India woke up to find himself in Abu Dhabi, sparking confusion and debate over how he ended up there. According to “Russia Today,” citing the Indian newspaper “India Today,” the worker was at Mumbai Airport, working in the baggage handling area. He fell asleep from exhaustion while preparing bags for a flight to Abu Dhabi, and when he awoke, he found himself in another country. UAE authorities conducted an investigation before returning him to his home country.

The worker confirmed that he accidentally fell asleep while working in the luggage storage area, and the plane took off with him inside. He arrived safely in the UAE, prompting authorities to contact the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in India to investigate the unintentional mistake.

The civil aviation authority stated that it was indeed looking into the incident, with some IndiGo airline employees suspended until the investigation concludes. The aircraft, an IndiGo A320, with the flight number “6E-1835,” had its cargo door closed after staff marked the number of passengers in the flight system and baggage. After confirming that the number was complete, the aircraft took off without realizing the worker was still in the cargo hold.

Medical authorities in Abu Dhabi conducted a health check on the worker, finding him to be in stable and normal condition. After obtaining the necessary approvals, he was returned to Mumbai on the return flight.
