The U.S. Geological Survey announced that a 6.1 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The agency added that the earthquake occurred 44 kilometers from the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan and was at a depth of 51 kilometers. No reports of damage or fatalities have been received yet. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre tweeted that the tremor was felt by 119 million people in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India over an area of approximately 500 kilometers. People felt the earthquake in the Afghan capital Kabul as well as in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, according to eyewitness accounts posted on the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre's website.
