Life concerns continue to dominate the daily scene for Lebanese people. Whether the fuel price crisis calms down or intensifies, there is a looming bread crisis that goes beyond the availability of wheat, with continuous indications of a gradual increase in the price of a loaf of bread. This comes despite the loan that the World Bank will provide to purchase wheat for at least two months or at most six months. This situation is evident in light of the mission of a World Bank delegation that arrived in Beirut to conduct necessary discussions with the Ministry of Economy.
Amidst the "government stalemate" that threatens to paralyze the country entirely and exacerbates fragmentation and collapses in all sectors, the Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, is heading to Baghdad tomorrow, Wednesday, to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi. He is attempting to obtain new Iraqi support amid the intensifying crises of fuel and flour in Lebanon.
Information from "Al-Liwa" indicated that the visit was scheduled following a phone call between Ibrahim and al-Kadhimi, who will send a private Iraqi plane to transport his Lebanese guest to Baghdad. They will discuss renewing the Iraqi fuel agreement and Lebanon's request to increase the quantities agreed upon in the previous agreement, as well as the possibility of obtaining quantities of flour, similar to previous Iraqi assistance that was damaged due to haphazard storage at the Sports City in Beirut, which was exposed to rainwater. Al-Kadhimi had mentioned in his speech at the Jeddah summit, attended by U.S. President Joe Biden, leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Jordanian King Abdullah II, the necessity of assisting Lebanon in overcoming its current crisis and the challenges it faces.
