A report released on Saturday by the Microbiology Institute at the Chinese Academy of Sciences stated that the vaccine produced by Chongqing Zifi Biological is effective against the Delta variant in laboratory studies, according to Bloomberg News on Sunday. The Yisai newspaper reported on Sunday that the research report, led by the head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, indicated that the Zifi vaccine is largely effective against seven variants, including Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta. However, the "neutralizing effects" are weaker compared to older variants, according to the report, which noted that researchers collected serum samples from 28 trial participants. The Delta variant has spread to more than 100 countries and has emerged as the most concerning variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. It has become the dominant strain in the United States and the United Kingdom, among other countries. The Zifi vaccine requires three doses and is currently undergoing phase three trials.
