Russian media reported that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are set to hold a meeting in the Russian capital Moscow tomorrow, Monday.
The sources noted that this will be the first talks of their kind since the two countries fought a fierce war that lasted 44 days at the end of last year. The Kremlin announced in a statement on Sunday evening that the talks, hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, will focus on aiding the residents of the region affected by the war and on reopening economic ties and transportation links between the two countries, with President Putin starting and presiding over the meeting.
It is worth mentioning that more than 5,500 soldiers from both sides lost their lives in the 44-day war between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, until Russia mediated to establish a ceasefire and halt hostilities on November 10 of last year. Armenia withdrew from several Azerbaijani areas it had occupied for nearly three decades under the ceasefire agreement overseen by Russia, in addition to the deployment of Russian peacekeeping forces in the region.
