A Egyptian telecommunications company has produced a series of advertisements encouraging the public to support the Egyptian national team in the Africa Cup of Nations, featuring several key players from the team, such as Saudi Union player Ahmed Hegazi, Ahmed Fattouh, and Mohamed El-Wenesh. The campaign by "Orange Telecommunications" is titled "Qafshin in Eighth, Bring Him to Us."
The storyline of the ads emphasizes protecting the players from any fatigue or unhealthy eating. In one of the advertisements, Ahmed Hegazi is prevented from entering a cinema for a 10 PM screening, among other scenarios that resonated widely within Egyptian and Arab sports circles.
Notably absent from these advertisements is the captain of the Egyptian national team, Mohamed Salah, who is tied to multiple endorsement contracts that prevent him from appearing in ads for other companies. The Egyptian team is set to compete in the Africa Cup, beginning their matches next Tuesday against the Nigerian team in the first game of Group D, which also includes Sudan and Guinea-Bissau alongside the two teams.
