The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, believes that there is potential to achieve a better situation with Iran through dialogue and discussions on unresolved issues regarding the Iranian nuclear file. He stated, "We told the Iranians that we need to sit at the table to discuss the technical matters to reach solutions and clarifications."
According to Reuters, Grossi announced today that Iran has accepted an initiative to engage in specific, regular efforts to clarify outstanding issues such as uranium particles, and expressed an eagerness to hold a technical meeting at the beginning of April. He added, "I prefer having a timeline that sets a specific date in order to understand this issue by summer or even earlier." "We will ask all our questions to the Iranians and will see then what the cooperation with the agency will look like." Grossi considered that the beginning of understanding will be around technical points but indicated that the discussion will cover all details without currently prioritizing any. He revealed that he will hold technical discussions in Iran at the beginning of next month. He mentioned that the Board of Governors has been informed about Iran's production of a small amount of uranium metal, and that there is no additional information available. "We aim to present a report to the Board of Governors in our next meeting next month."
For its part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry noted that the recent development could preserve diplomacy and create conditions for all parties to return to their commitments, expressing hope that all sides could benefit from this opportunity for cooperation and ensure everyone's implementation of the nuclear agreement. Diplomatic moves led to the withdrawal of a draft resolution condemning Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency, and earlier, European countries withdrew a draft resolution to condemn Iran for its withdrawal from the additional protocol. This was regarded by the U.S. statement at the IAEA meeting as a new opportunity for Iran to demonstrate necessary cooperation before the upcoming meeting.
