Colorful Foods Strengthen Brain Health and Memory

A recent study published in the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology wondered whether a healthy diet is sufficient for the human body and mind. Participants in the study assessed the cognitive abilities of a group of individuals twice with questions such as, "Do you have more than usual problems remembering recent events?" and "Do you have more than usual difficulty remembering a short list of items?"

The study found that adding fresh, colorful fruits and vegetables to the diet can significantly reduce the risk of cognitive decline and improve brain health. According to this study, individuals who consume at least half a serving daily of foods rich in flavonoids, such as strawberries, oranges, peppers, and apples, are 20% less likely to experience cognitive decline.

Flavonoids are natural compounds found in plants, including certain spices, and yellow or orange fruits and vegetables like blueberries. They have protective properties and are considered powerful antioxidants. It is believed that consuming a small amount of antioxidants plays an important role in reducing cognitive decline with aging, according to the Times of India.
