The Iraqi government has set November 10 as the new date for early elections.
According to a government source quoted by Russia Today, "the Council of Ministers has determined November 10 as the date for early elections instead of June 6." Recently, the High Independent Electoral Commission in Iraq suggested postponing the early election date, which had initially been set for June 6 by the office of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. Meetings were held involving the Presidency, the Council of Ministers, Parliament, and the judiciary to discuss preparations for the early elections. Meanwhile, the leader of the Sadrist Movement in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, warned against delaying the elections, urging citizens to update their electoral records. The upcoming elections are in response to the demands of Iraqi popular protests and are set to take place a year before the end of the current legislative term of the Iraqi Parliament.
