The only goal of the match was scored by young player Ryan Gravenberch in the 22nd minute with a powerful left-footed shot from inside the penalty area. Ryan Gravenberch (18 years and 246 days) became the youngest scorer in the Ajax vs. Feyenoord classic since Viktor Fischer in January 2013.
Feyenoord Rotterdam came close to equalizing in stoppage time; however, the crossbar saved the situation for goalkeeper André Onana.
