Chris Rock's First Statement After the Oscar Slap

Three days after being slapped by his colleague Will Smith at the Oscars, American comedian Chris Rock did not say a word on the Oscar stage. According to the news site Variety, Rock, who mocked the shaved head of Will Smith's wife, Jada Smith, broke his silence for the first time at a comedy show. He repeated the spontaneous words "Oh, and okay," which he uttered in shock right after the slap, at the beginning of a comedy show in Boston, Massachusetts, on Wednesday night. The 57-year-old Rock received a warm two-minute standing ovation from the audience, after which he broke the applause by saying, "Let me do my show." He later addressed the slap incident, stating, "I don't have much to say about what happened over the weekend. If you came here to hear something about that, I have a show I wrote before this weekend." He mentioned that he is still thinking about the slap incident and said, "I will talk about this nonsense at some point, and it will be serious and funny."
