Ashraf Zaki Threatens Video Creator for Insulting Egyptian Artists

The video published by young singer Dina Hussein has gone viral in Egypt after she made remarks deemed offensive to the artistic community and its workers. The video spread widely in recent hours, prompting the Egyptian Actors Syndicate, led by artist Ashraf Zaki, to announce urgent action.

In televised statements, Zaki mentioned that the union is preparing to file a complaint with the Public Prosecution against the creator of the offensive video, accusing her of "seeking trends and fame," which leads her to "spread lies and make accusations about this honorable profession." Zaki warned, "This matter will not go unpunished."

He continued, "Egypt is a country that has produced great names, such as Umm Kulthum, Faten Hamama, and Samira Ayyoub. It's unacceptable for those seeking fame to insult the profession in search of trends."

The incident began with the spread of a video on social media showing Dina Hussein (29 years old) launching a fierce attack on the artistic community, claiming that it requires young women to make specific concessions. The video includes offensive statements about producers and workers in this field in general. Dina declared that the artistic community "suffers from a bad reputation." Upon further investigation, the video was first published in March but did not cause much controversy at that time compared to its current re-circulation, which resulted in the syndicate's move to take legal actions against her.

In a joint statement issued by the General Federation of Artistic Unions (which includes cinema, acting, and music unions), the federation condemned those statements and expressed its complete rejection of the "inappropriate and irresponsible remarks contained in one of the insidious videos for non-professional purposes made by a singer who was given a platform by a channel in a way that contradicts the principles of media work, allowing her to make sweeping judgments without evidence or facts."
