Trump Begins War on Facebook and Twitter

Under the title "Trump Begins War on Facebook and Twitter," Sky News Arabia reported that former President Donald Trump plans to announce class-action lawsuits on Wednesday against Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey. Axios stated that Trump's efforts, who has previously complained about censorship from social media giants, will be supported by the "America First Policy Institute," a non-profit organization focused on sustaining Trump’s policies. Trump will be accompanied during the announcement of these lawsuits by the group’s president and CEO, as well as former Trump administration officials Linda McMahon and Brooke Rollins.

During his presidency, Trump attempted to target the CEOs and technology companies. In 2020, he signed an executive order aimed at reducing the legal protections for social media companies from liability for content posted by users on their platforms. However, President Joe Biden revoked the order last May. So far, Trump and other conservative critics have not provided substantial evidence that either Facebook or Twitter is biased against conservatives and their policies in the U.S.

The lawsuits Trump plans to file against the social media giants are not expected to succeed, as Trump has often sued individuals and entities throughout his career but has rarely won or even had cases brought to court. This move comes just a few days after Trump officially launched a new social media platform called "Getter," which had previously been in beta. The application, according to Trump’s spokesperson Jason Miller, targets individuals who struggle with the adjustments made by major social media applications like Twitter regarding content.

Since being banned from all major platforms in January for encouraging the Capitol riots through his posts, Trump has asserted that he wants to appear again on a new social media application where he can express himself freely. However, experts do not expect Trump’s new application to compete with major social media companies due to the many challenges it faces.
