Libya: Announcement of the Final Statement from Bouznika Meetings

Today, the final statement from the meetings of Libyan parties in the Moroccan city of Bouznika was announced.

The statement mentioned that there was an agreement to support the efforts made by the United Nations-sponsored political dialogue forum to form an executive authority for the preliminary phase in Libya, with an emphasis on "considering geographic balance in appointments in addition to competence." For his part, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reaffirmed Rabat's commitment to halting external interventions in Libya, adding that Morocco will work consistently and constructively to resolve the Libyan crisis. Bourita had indicated earlier today that there has been "progress in the Libyan political dialogue on several levels, all of which are elements that inspire optimism."

It is worth noting that the meeting between the conflicting Libyan parties began on Friday evening, in a new round of Libyan-Libyan dialogue in the city of Bouznika, to negotiate the methods and mechanisms for distributing and assuming leadership positions in sovereign state roles and proposing the names that will take on these positions, which is one of the most significant challenges facing the comprehensive settlement process in Libya led by the United Nations, amid hopes of overcoming it and unifying the country's leading institutions, especially after the breakthrough in forming the executive authority.
