Twitter is testing a new feature that allows users to remove themselves from posts in which they have been mentioned, effectively exiting long and unwanted message threads.
The feature, known as "Unmention," has been widely requested by users who are frequently tagged in tweets, something the social network hinted at releasing in the past. The concept of the "Unmention" button was first revealed in July of last year, and the feature is still experimental for Twitter users at this time.
To use the new feature, once it is rolled out more broadly, you will simply select "Unmention yourself from this conversation" from the "More Information" menu, and the link to your profile will be removed.
The feature is already available to some users, but Twitter states it cannot specify a particular date for when the feature will be widely available on the web or mobile.
There is another feature regarding mentions that was proposed in 2021, which is the ability to prevent certain users from mentioning you in the future. When someone you do not follow mentions you on Twitter, you will receive a special notification. If you unmention yourself from there, the tweet author will not be able to mention you again, according to the Daily Mail.
