Hamiye Reveals the Start Date for the Harbor Reconstruction: We Will Not Allow Anyone to Keep it Hostage

The Minister of Public Works in the caretaker government, Ali Hamiye, announced via his Twitter account that "the reconstruction of the Port of Beirut will begin at the end of August this year." He stated, "To the whole world, we announce: the reconstruction project of the Port of Beirut will start by the end of August 2022 based on a comprehensive plan through which we will invest in every square meter of it." He added, "The Port of Beirut is resilient against destruction."

Earlier, Hamiye indicated that "his position is linked to the Lebanese government's decision regarding the matter of maritime borders, and he will implement what the Lebanese government decides." In a radio interview, he pointed out that "given the overall situation in the country, Beirut's international airport needs improvement and development, and we are ready to go to the end in this area."

Regarding the Port of Beirut, he said, "One of our main goals today is to activate the port's operations before reconstruction, and we have approached the reconstruction scientifically and within a comprehensive plan... We will not allow anyone to keep the Port of Beirut hostage, and we have opened the ministry's doors to everyone for the interest of Lebanon and the Lebanese people."
