Prime South Company announced the continuation of its operations and maintenance of the Zahle and Deir Ammar plants within the granted timeframe.
The National News Agency reported a statement from the company this evening, confirming its ongoing operations and maintenance of the Zahle and Deir Ammar plants, based on a call from the Prime Minister and his promise to address the issue, as well as calls from both the Ministry of Energy and Water and the Electricité du Liban.
The company's statement clarified that it has responded to the concerned parties to find a solution regarding the payment of its previous dues and dues for the next year. The Lebanese government has promised the company to find a solution soon so that Prime South can fulfill its commitments and perform to the fullest, as it has achieved significant accomplishments in the past five years, increasing efficiency in the Deir Ammar and Zahle plants, restoring them to a high level of productivity and reliability.
It is noteworthy that Electricité du Liban requested Prime South to extend the contract for one year, and negotiations began with the company to find a solution for the payment mechanism for dues that have accrued for more than three months, to enable the company to fulfill its commitments effectively at the same level; however, no solution has been reached.
It is important to note that the mentioned plants account for about 55% of Lebanon's total electricity production capacity, equivalent to 900 megawatts, providing approximately 9 to 10 hours of daily electricity supply. The decision taken by the company is commendable in light of the difficult economic conditions the country is experiencing.
