Russian endocrinologist and nutrition expert Dr. Oksana Mikhailova has stated that radish is a low-calorie spring vegetable that improves intestinal function as well as the health of bones, hair, and skin. The expert noted that "radishes are vegetables that contain few calories, with 100 grams containing 16-20 calories. They are rich in dietary fiber, which is beneficial for digestion and supports the gut microbiome. The high fiber content in radish makes a person feel full quickly, which is a very useful property."
She added: "Radishes are rich in vitamin C, with 100 grams providing one-third of the body's daily requirement for this vitamin. They are also unique for containing the rare element silicon." She stated: "Silicon is important for intestinal function and the health of bones, skin, hair, and nails. Radishes also contain essential elements like cobalt, copper, molybdenum, and chromium, which are necessary for maintaining normal hormone levels in the body."
The expert confirmed that radish is a unique and beneficial food that should be added to the diet. However, due to its content of volatile oils, it is not recommended for people suffering from stomach, intestinal diseases, or gallbladder issues, especially during flare-ups of these conditions.
