First Grain Shipment from Ukraine Arrives in Lebanon on Sunday

The press spokesperson at the Ukrainian embassy in Beirut, Marilin Marhaj, revealed on Friday that "the first grain shipment exported by Ukraine since the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian war will arrive at the Port of Tripoli on Sunday morning." Marhaj noted to the French press agency that "the ship is expected to arrive at ten o'clock (7:00 GMT) on Sunday at the Port of Tripoli."

The vessel "Razoni," flying the flag of Sierra Leone, departed from the Ukrainian port of Odesa on Monday carrying 26,000 tons of corn and reached the northern shores of Istanbul on Tuesday before continuing its journey to Lebanon.

An agreement signed by Russia and Ukraine on July 22, mediated by Turkey and under the auspices of the United Nations, allows for the resumption of shipments to international markets of Ukrainian grain that had been stalled since the Russian invasion. It specifically provides for the creation of safe corridors to permit the sailing of commercial vessels in the Black Sea and the export of between 20 to 25 million tons of grain.
