The Egyptian Cabinet announced that Egypt possesses black sands, referred to as the "black treasure" or "radioactive sands," which contain many heavy minerals. A video graphic published by the Information and Decision Support Center of the Cabinet indicated that Egypt has approximately 11 locations rich in black sands and the heavy minerals they contain, which are separated in their locations using special equipment.
The video explained that the sands are then transformed into strategic products and 41 important industries, such as the manufacturing of aircraft and automobile structures, petroleum pipes, nuclear radiation materials, and others, making it a national wealth not to be underestimated.
The Egyptian Black Sand Company was established to maximize the economic benefits from the project of exploiting economic minerals from black sands while adhering to global environmental and health safety standards and creating added value for the extracted minerals to foster new investments that contribute to the development and advancement of the Egyptian economy.
There are two locations for black sands in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate: the first is east of Burullus in the Menisi Channel belonging to the Shihabiya village, covering an area of 80 acres, and the second is north of the international road west of the giant Burullus power station, covering an area of 35 acres. The project involves the participation of Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, the National Service Projects Organization of the Armed Forces, the Nuclear Materials Authority, and the Investment Bank. The first factory has Egyptian-Australian expertise in East Burullus, while the second has Chinese expertise in North Burullus, with investments in the sand factory in North Burullus estimated at 24 million dollars.
