Complications of "COVID-19" a Year After Recovery

Dr. Andrei Zvonkikov announced that the new coronavirus infection could cause complications that appear a year after infection. He offers advice for those who contracted "COVID-19" last summer. Zvonkikov points out in an interview with Sputnik Radio that the waves of "COVID-19" experienced in Russia have left "clear traces" in the form of complications that can appear months after illness. According to him, the most severe infections were from the "Delta" variant, which dominated in the second half of last year.

He states, "Last year, the Delta variant spread, causing many deaths and leaving a strong mark in the form of complications primarily affecting the blood vessels in various organs of the body, especially in the lungs, as they are on the route of the virus's spread in the body and are exposed to a large number of viruses. From there, it spreads throughout the body, affecting various organs and tissues - the brain, liver, kidneys, and heart."

He notes that "everything depends on the severity and duration of the illness. Some developed multiple organ dysfunction syndrome involving all organs, while others continued to suffer from lung failure, leading to complications called 'cor pulmonale' because respiratory failure increases the burden on the heart. In general, this is like 'a lottery'."

He emphasizes the necessity of undergoing a comprehensive medical examination; if the doctor discovers any issues, they should be treated through rehabilitation courses, such as exercise, physiotherapy, and treatment in health resorts.
