Sri Lankan President Resigns on July 13

According to the Sri Lankan news portal, quoting the parliamentary spokesperson Mahindo Yapa, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will resign from his position on July 13. The spokesperson confirmed that Rajapaksa informed him of this decision. A senior military source previously stated that Rajapaksa fled from his official residence in the capital before footage emerged of protesters demanding his resignation as they stormed the presidential complex. Thousands of protesters overwhelmed the Sri Lankan capital. Instead of the planned peaceful march, demonstrators breached police barriers and seized the presidential palace. Reports indicate that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was evacuated shortly before protesters surrounded his home.
