Since his election, Sheikh Sami Abi Al-Muna, the head of the Druze community, has been contemplating the idea of holding a spiritual summit at the community center in Verdun. He has repeatedly brought up this topic during his meetings with leaders of various religious sects, discussing the feasibility of gathering to consult on the political, economic, and social crises plaguing Lebanon, which are escalating. So, what is the status of these efforts, and will they culminate in success? Will a spiritual summit be held soon?
Informed sources confirm to "Al-Markazia" that Sheikh Abi Al-Muna, since taking office at the community center, has sought to hold this summit due to the circumstances Lebanon is facing. He has seized every opportunity to propose and advocate for it during meetings with spiritual leaders. He has expressed his desire for it to be held at the Druze community center, given his recent election compared to other sect leaders. However, should that prove impossible and the summit takes place elsewhere, it would not be a problem; the most important thing is gathering and discussing.
The sources indicate that the current circumstances are more conducive than ever for holding a summit, a sentiment that was also present before the parliamentary elections. However, time is now pressing, and a meeting has become more than necessary to address the dire economic and livelihood issues, to respect the constitutional entitlements, particularly the upcoming presidential elections, and to rescue Lebanon, putting it back on the right track so citizens can start to feel some improvement. The sources expressed hope for holding this summit, as when the Lebanese people see their spiritual leaders united, it gives them hope and a sweet spirit.
Is the summit heating up? The sources don’t believe this is the case, as the topic of the summit has never been a hidden or secret matter. For a summit to convene, consensus among the spiritual leaders is required, as well as the Islamic-Christian dialogue committee to draft and prepare a statement and theme for the summit.
On the other hand, the community center is preparing for an extensive consultative meeting that will include spiritual figures such as bishops, priests, and sheikhs from Sunni and Shia sects, as well as various religious denominations, but not the heads of these sects, with hopes that this will be a stepping stone toward holding a specific spiritual summit. Work is in full swing to achieve this goal, aiming for the meeting to occur soon to help address these pressing matters and promote unity.
