Economic sources linked to the International Monetary Fund expressed relief regarding what they termed a positive signal that serves Lebanon's quest to agree on a cooperation program with the IMF. This signal was reflected in the Lebanese Parliament's approval of the banking secrecy law, which is one of the steps requested by the IMF. They confirmed to the newspaper "Al-Joumhouria" that this positive step should be quickly followed by the approval of the capital control law, as well as the approval of the government's recovery plan. There is hope that this will happen soon and not be postponed until after the upcoming deadlines in Lebanon.
On the other hand, the harsh reality of Lebanon and the Lebanese people's suffering was evident in the parliament on the day before yesterday, with political components showcasing a deep division. Parliamentary sources indicated to "Al-Joumhouria" that this situation could be seen as foundational for what future parliamentary sessions will look like, regardless of the title, whether legislative, electoral, or discussing the general budget or a general discussion on government policy. This indicates that any upcoming general session of the parliament will serve as an additional station of political tension, nothing more and nothing less.
