Spotify, the leading music streaming company, announced on Wednesday that it has closed its offices in Russia and removed content produced by Russian government institutions from its platform.
In a statement, Spotify said it took this step in response to the "unjustified attack on Ukraine." It added, "We have closed our offices in Russia until further notice."
The company announced that it has reviewed "thousands of podcast episodes since the start of the war" and limited the ability to find podcasts owned or managed by Russian state media.
Spotify noted that it had previously removed from its markets in the European Union and other regions all content from "RT" and "Sputnik," two media outlets funded by the Russian government.
However, the company has kept its services available to Russian users. It stated, "We believe it is essential for our service to remain accessible in Russia to enable the global flow of information."
