The U.S. Hurricane Center announced that "Grace" intensified into a strong Category 3 hurricane late Friday into Saturday before making its second landfall on the shores of Mexico. The center reported that "Grace quickly transformed into a major hurricane." As of 3 a.m. GMT on Saturday, the hurricane was located 120 kilometers from Tuxpan, in the state of Veracruz in eastern Mexico, with winds reaching speeds of 195 kilometers per hour. The storm had already turned into a hurricane as it approached Veracruz. The hurricane then passed through the Yucatan Peninsula on Thursday without causing any loss of life or significant material damage.
