Parents of a young child in Italy have called for blood for their son not to be transfused from vaccinated donors against the novel coronavirus during a surgical procedure, in a case that has attracted significant public attention.
A court in Modena ruled in favor of the hospital on Tuesday, concluding that the child's parents do not have the right to instruct doctors to administer blood from an unvaccinated person to their son. The judge rejected the parents' objections after determining that the blood provided by the hospital in Bologna guarantees complete safety, according to the Italian news agency ANSA citing the family's lawyer.
The child's parents expressed concern about receiving blood from a vaccinated person. The staff at the Bologna blood center could not convince the parents to accept blood from a vaccinated donor, leading them to seek unvaccinated donors and send a list of names to the hospital.
